Are newer foils better constructed than older foils?

Hello everybody. I am wanting to get a foil Yosei, the Morning Star for commander and I see that it was printed in the Kamigawa block and in Modern Masters. The prices are pretty much the same so I wanted to double check is there a reason for that?

I heard that some older foils used a sticker method and peeled off sometimes but I don't know if this is true. Any knowledge about this topic?

Thanks for the heads up. From the reading there and on MTG Salvation and around the web I've gathered that newer foils will tend to look better as the process changed. Regardless, no foils pass the crease test, something I had never considered. I'll have to be careful about who I let shuffle my deck. I'd happily refuse a game so that my foil Alesha, Who Smiles at Death doesn't get the crinkle-treatment if the guy insists on bridge shuffling. Luckily my friends are pretty understanding and the ones who have expensive cards also prefer that I pile shuffle their cards.

The appearance of foils is different, rather than better. Some prefer the old foiling, because shiny borders look beautiful.

Yeah I agree, in the same commander deck my contenders for my most beautiful foils are Melek, Izzet Paragon and Cultural Exchange. The cultural exchange would actually look bad (in my opinion) under the new foil because it would ruin the art style that the person used. But the Gameday Melek also looks awesome because the new foil style really brings out the awesomeness in the full card art for Melek.

So for me, it really depends on the card.

I think that it's really a matter of opinion - check out both foils, and use which one you like better.

The old foils did tend to warp a lot more and were naturally bent. They've done a better job recently of keeping the foils flat (barring FTV and stuff)
