I know it's important on knowing what you're of deck I'm wanting to construct. I was thinking an elf deck but lack many of the cards needed. So any suggestions on any type of deck would help me greatly. Thank you for your time

What format? What budget? What elf tribal cards are you lacking? What is it about leaves that appeal to you (synergy, ramp, tribal, elves, small creatures, what)? How competitive? Just a deck with elves or full on tribal? I would like these questions answered before I bullshit and spittball suggestions.

Formats that (in my opinion, off the top of my head) have decent enough elf support are:

EDH (I've seen mono green, Simic, Selesnya, & Golgari builds do very well)

Modern ( CoCo really made it more playable)

Legacy (correct me if I'm wrong here, I'm not sure if elves is a deck)

Pauper (I am not too familiar with Pauper although I know elves lists can do work)

I would also consider building a Cube with elf tribal being a major theme. Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block in particular have a very strong base for this.

TL;DR: I'd like more information to assist you.

See I'm not familiar with those terms. I'm kind of a noob. I mean I've built a couple decks and a couple tournament banned ones but I'm not super familiar with everything. Like I'm the type of person if I have to buy one card at a time to get a good deck I will

Oh I see. As elves is not an archetype I particularly care for and I find myself poor at explaining the formats, I'll leave this to someone else.

Okay, first watch a video on Mtg Formats. Basically there are some elves that are allowed to be played in certain games. I usually try to stick with modern. If you are playing with a casual playgroup, you can stick with a freeform/casual deck (Any cards allowed). Staple elves (In my opinion) are Wellwisher, Elvish Archdruid, Immaculate Magistrate, and Joraga Warcaller. It really depends on how serious you are about the game. Good luck!
