FNM —Jan. 24, 2015

With the cards from FRF being legalized yesterday, I was ready to test my new Sultai control brew. Ended up with fairly decent results, 3-1 with my only loss being to warriors after getting mana screwed and horrible draws two games in a row. After that, ran like a champ though.

Ended up winning over Sidisi Whip, Jeskai Ascendency combo/tokens (was weird) and Mardu Aggro. I feel like I got to see what a lot of the deck archetypes are gonna be able to do against this deck, and frankly it may not be too much. With this much removal, and this much countermagic, it's hard to get anything through effectively.

I also want to point out how incredible both Silumgar, the Drifting Death and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon played. Each time these cards hit the field, they stayed there, and did work. Multiple finishing with Ugin's +2 alone.

I feel like this deck is missing around 4-8 copies of thoughtseize/despise... Other than that, I would hate to play against it. Just a murderfest it looks like. Going to have many angry opponents with this one lol.

What's your opinion on reality shift? Also, you really need more two mana cost card interaction or you will die to rabblemaster.

I really like Reality Shift and have been considering a place for it here. As for Rabblemaster, he can indeed be a problem. 1st game anyway, post sideboard I deal with aggro pretty well.

I love this build, but what's your opinion on running 4 Disdainful Strokes? It is very efficient, but perhaps you might consider splitting the difference with Stubborn Denial? It's great to essentially get early game time walks, and you have more than enough other hard counters to cover the late game.

Do you find that you're missing that early game interaction, or can you rely on kill spells to clean up?

I'm not much of a fan of Stubborn Denial honestly, not in standard anyway. Just too unreliable after the first few turns

Al thought I think courser is great in this list, I feel like you might want some extra draw power. If nothing else, put some in the board. I do like the synergy of courser with having a bunch of lands in hand and the monastery siege. Seems pretty sweet man. +1

i have the feeling you lack in removal. because of all the counters you have, I have the feeling that you are going to be discarding because of the maximum handsize.so I suggest go for more removal and less counters
