ITEMS
Put all items you find in treasures or buy at the city in your backpack (use your Maybeboard for that). When you start a match, at the beginning of your Preparation Time, choose up to 6 of your backpack items and put them onto the battlefield. You do not cast them, you simply start the game with them already on the battlefield, like you would do with a Leyline of Anticipation.
Items are permanents like any other. Their abilities can be activated, and they can be destroyed. A Blazing Torch, for example, can be equipped to a creature to help it repel zombies. At the end of the match, the item is put back into your backpack and you may use it again in your next battle. But if the equipped creature throws away the Blazing Torch for 2 damage, the torch ends up in your graveyard and is very likely to be lost forever: when a match ends and an item is no longer on the battlefield under your control or in your hand, it is lost and you must remove it from your backpack.
Most equipments, unless destroyed or thrown away like the Blazing Torch, can be used every combat. Most other items are usable only once though. For example, an Elixir of Immortality is shuffled in your library when you drink it, so unless you're lucky enough to draw it before the match ends, it will be lost forever. If you do draw it back, then you're very lucky, the bottle wasn't completely empty of its magical elixir! Keep it in your hand or cast it if you want. As long as the item is in your hand or on the battlefield under your control at the end of the match, you can keep it and put it back into your backpack. If your character can cast spells like Argivian Restoration or Ritual of Restoration, then he'll be able to repair a destroyed item or refill an emptied bottle of Moonglove Extract, for example.
(TO USE YOUR 6 CHOSEN ITEMS IN A MATCH, SIMPLY CUT/PASTE THEM IN YOUR DECK LIST, THEN DRAW THEM BY NAME AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MATCH AND PLACE THEM ON THE BATTLEFIELD.)
(Oh and if you wish to distinguish items from your deck's artifact cards, add *F after the item's name in your deck list to make it sexy and shiny!)
