Dimir Leaders —May 11, 2020

Dimir Tiny Leaders are weird. Half of them were from the unstable sets. I didn’t include those.

Lazav, the Multifarious

Rona, Disciple of Gix

Sygg, River Cutthroat

Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow

With Rona, Disciple of Gix I can revive artifacts, legendaries, and sagas. I hadn’t thought about sagas much up until now, but now that I am, I think they could make a really interesting theme for the Tiny half. That’s not to say that I couldn’t have any sagas over 4-cost, but probably not that many since I wouldn’t want sagas to be the theme of the EDH deck as much as one of the many features. All in all Rona is definitely a contender for the spot of leader, but that’s mostly just because I like how unique she sounds to play; I really don’t know how well she’ll fit in this deck. For now, I’ll keep her in my list of Leader options.

Sygg, River Cutthroat. If an opponent takes at least 3 damage in a turn, at the end of the turn, draw a card. In 4-player EDH or other multiplayer formats, that could mean multiple card-draws each turn cycle, but in Tiny Leaders which is mostly 1v1 the maximum number of additional cards I could draw from Sygg, River Cutthroat is 2, and that’s only if my opponent takes damage on their own turn. Even in EDH, the maximum number of cards I could draw from Sygg, River Cutthroat is just 4; something I could easily accomplish in any number of other ways. I’m letting Sygg go.

I’m honestly a bit surprised Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow hasn’t been banned as a leader. The fact that Commander Ninjutsu keeps her at 2-cost seems broken to me, and Ninjutsu also has the potential to recycle some enter the battlefield effects, which I’m sure could be easily abused. I could see her pairing well with evasive creatures. I think comboing her with a Wingcrafter and a Lightning Berserker could work well, but if I really want to fully utilize her effects the tiny half would have to be full of ninjas, which I’m not sure if I’m ready to commit to. Without that, she can only add one additional card draw per each of my turns, which isn’t all that amazing. Unless I want half of my deck to be ninjas, Yuriko won’t work as the leader for this deck.
