Descent-into-Avernus

Well if this isn't just the right kind of chaotic Ib card then I don't know what is. Love it!

sdidonato: I have been moving the last couple weeks so I haven't been able to keep up to speed on Dominaria. That is a very strong card, one of the strongest we've gotten in a long time! Great card to help rebuild after a board wipe, or just dig deep through a sac engine. I love it!

I got the opportunity to play this weekend after a long time away, and had a blast with the newest version of the deck!

Won a game after Tibalt's Trickery turned a 9x Green Sun's Zenith into an unplayable land. Purphoros ended up killing the table a few turns later.

Descent into Avernus was an allstar, and pretty well received across the whole table. This is the epitome of Red effects to me, and loved having it out.

Got to use Memory Jar for the first time in probably years and I stand by this being the best wheel effect available to Red.

The deck is just as bursty and unpredictable as ever. I wish we had even a little bit of lifegain to combat all the sources of self damage, but I can't complain. I was a constant element in every game.

The addition of treasures was exactly what this deck needed. I played more aggressive with my lands than I've ever been able to thanks to them.

This particular makeup of lands, ramp, and treasures felt just right, riding the edge of too many and too few just like I like, but I could see someone needing as many as 34 lands if they didn't have as many fetches or treasure cards.

It looks like I will be able to play 8-10x more often than I have been the last year, so I will be doing a lot more tuning and updates than I have been. Stay tuned!

Liquidbeaver Great to hear on the performance and enjoyability.

As for life gain, Shadowspear might be a really good option

CoarselyRefined: Ib thanks you for your butt kissing, and chooses to ignore the "Probably one of" portion of your sentence.

What are your thoughts on Sardian Avenger?

I pre-ordered my copy of Sardian Acenger since my playgroup uses a lot of treasures and mana rocks to begin with, plus it pairs well with Descent into Avernus

I was about to recommend Brazen Cannonade until I scrolled down and saw your last comment lol. Excellent deck and primer. Definitely makes me want to step up my primer writing some more.

Hiya, Liquidbeaver! Any news and/or updates for this list? Lotsa new cards being released, including Solphim, Mayhem Dominus. Can't wait to hear how the deck has been playing with your recent changes!

I did a quick search to find other new cards to consider for the list (other than the suggested Solphim above). Some are obviously better than others, but they are

Roar of Resistance - Haste to tokens AND you can pump ANY creature, whether you own it or not!

Exuberant Fuseling - At first glance it seems like this would work well with your treasure subtheme. Although, it would take a bit to setup up and could be a waste to just sac it, if Ib was out.

Gleeful Demolition - Pay a red and sac a treasure (so "2 mana" total) or another artifact to create 3x 1/1 gobos. Kind of wish it was instant speed though.

Koth, Fire of Resistance - Not sure what to think about this one. Seems okay-ish. I guess it does help get lands out of your deck, but it has to live for 3 full cycles to ult.. IDK.. maybe I'm missing something here

Rasaru: I've been super busy at work and the release schedule of new cards is super overwhelming, but yes I am also excited! Solphim is definitely going right in. Not only is it a nicely costed doubler (it honestly might replace Fiery Emancipation...) but having a 2nd creature in the deck that can survive a boardwipe is pretty nice. If someone is playing with Gratuitous Violence instead of Goblin Goliath (GG is a weird set that breaks and delists the deck which is why it is in the sideboard) I would absolutely replace Violence with Solphim.

I think Gleeful Demolition is definitely good enough for the deck, and them being Phyrexian Goblins means they still work with Ib's sacrifice.

As for Koth, in my playgroup at least, planeswalkers only really get the chance to do their entry ability before dying, and red doesn't have many planeswalkers with gamechanging +'s. My hope is that one day they make a Slobad planeswalker (apparently he was a PW for a day or something?!) and that it is good enough to run in here.

I hope to do another catchup run on the last set (I think I am only one behind?) very soon to do deck changes, and I will update as soon as I do!

Also, I played again recently with 3 people where each of us won once, and the treasure subtheme definitely made Ib a contender in all of the games. This is the strongest the deck has been, no question, and the couple chaos cards sprinkled in has also made it the most fun version so far.

City on Fire

Welp, this is an easy swap for Fiery Emancipation if I ever saw one...
