"zombie spell" questions
Asked by gtfoplz 8 years ago
first q: if diregraf colossus (Whenever you cast a Zombie spell, put a 2/2 black Zombie creature token onto the battlefield tapped.) is in play and I play from under the floor boards (Put three 2/2 black Zombie creature tokens onto the battlefield tapped and you gain 3 life.) do I get an additional zombie for each token?
second q: what constitutes "zombie spell"?
ok yeah i didn't see the tutorial for linking the cards until after i posted. but i figured the sorcery wouldn't count as a zombie spell but the tokens themselves would. they are 2/2 zombie creature token spells after all

Tokens are not spells. A spell is an object on the stack. You can cast a creature card, which means it'll be a creature spell while on the stack, but tokens are created on the battlefield by resolving spells or abilities. The tokens themselves aren't spells.

It helps if I read the full answers next time, heh. I walked away while writing this and missed part of the first answer right at the end about the tribal stuff.

Please link all cards in your question. Helps us answer you easier.
Diregraf Colossus, From Under the Floorboards
Diregraf will not give you any additional tokens in this scenario. This is because From Under the Floorboards is not a zombie spell. Just because it makes zombies, or has the word zombie in its text does not make it a zombie spell.
To answer your second question, which also answers your first question, a "zombie" spell is a creature spell with the subtype zombie that is on the stack. (i.e. Gravecrawler.) When you cast Gravecrawler from you hand, it is a zombie spell.
Certain spells can be tribal spells, like Crib Swap. While it is not a creature spell, it has a creature subtype and is therefore relevant to such triggers.
