Xenagos, the Reveler and counting Gods as creatures
Asked by Tomarhawk 11 years ago
Ok so I know that Gods are not creatures until they have the required devotion, however someone told me that it still says creature on the card so it is counted as a creature. My question is when using Xenagos, The Reveler +1 ability and I have a God on the field such as Nylea, God of the Hunt and two other creatures but the god does not have enough devotion is it still counted as a creature even though the devotion is not there just for that ability or not? The same also goes for when searching for cards in your library, can you search for a God as a creature when they are not on the field as they do not have the devotion, would you have to have a search for enchantment card instead of creature card? Thank you in advance for your help.
Ok thank you very much that is exactly what I need to here. You have been very helpful

On the battlefield, they always count as enchantments, and ONLY considered creatures IF you meet the required devotion, regardless of the fact that creature is printed on the card. When anywhere other than the battlefield, Enchantment Creatures (Gods and Bestow creatures) count as both enchantments and creatures. They can be searched for using either Worldly Tutor or Enlightened Tutor .

Yeah that's cool and it is what I thought but someone I played open table said otherwise. I just needed it clearing up so cheers for that :-)

It is not.
The ability explicitly says "As long as your devotion to [color] is less than [number], ~ isn't a creature." That means the permanent is not a creature, and it won't be treated as a creature.
The ability functions only while the Gods are on the battlefield. In all other zones, they are legendary enchantment creatures.
