Would a guildgate or dual land that produces red mana be a red permanent?

Asked by Zorroziggy 10 years ago

I was just wondering if my Rakdos Guildgate would count as a red permanent for my Kederekt Parasite . Any help is appreciated!

No. A card's casting cost (the symbols in the top-right corner) determine a card's colors. Lands do not have a casting cost, so they do not have a color.

Occasionally a card may have a "color indicator" in its typeline to determine its color, like in Dryad Arbor . The card's text may also determine it, like Ghostfire or Pact of Negation .

im, not entirely sure, but lands ARE permenants, and they are the color of the mana they provide. but for the purpose of cards like that, I think when it says Red Permanent it means an enchantment, or creature.

@The_Clearest_Dragon_Of_All: You are incorrect. Also, why would you post on a question that's been closed for 5 weeks, much less when you are "not entirely sure"?

  • 105.2. An object can be one or more of the five colors, or it can be no color at all. An object is the color or colors of the mana symbols in its mana cost, regardless of the color of its frame. An objects color or colors may also be defined by a color indicator or a characteristic-defining ability

@GreatSword first off, its how I was taught to state what I believe was the rule, if i'm mistaken then you don't have to be a jerk about it. second, I never saw anywhere where it said that a question could be "closed", that's something that honestly, your making up to provide a reason behind acting like a snot. I appreciate that you stated where and what rule was in question, but your come across makes it seem that you don't care if your account gets banned (btw, it also includes the IP address, to prevent kids like you from acting like snots, and making a new account to keep going) please just be nice about how you say stuff, and no one has to get moody about who is spouting off at the mouth about what.

You're new here (about a week) so I will explain how the Tapped Out Q+A page works. A user asks a MtG rules question and it goes into the "Unanswered" que at the top of the page. Other users respond with an answer, sometimes citing a part of the rules if necessary. Once a proper answer has been given, the user that asked the question selects an answer. This puts the post in the "answered" que of the page, closing the thread. People may of course keep adding to the thread, but usually no one does, and the post quietly slips down the page.

Also, feel free to read my (short) bio by clicking my username, so you will not post any silly assumptions next time.
