when a token dies what happens?
Asked by The-Siege 11 years ago
Do tokens count in the total number of creatures in a graveyard?
When tokens die, they briefly touch the graveyard, which will trigger any effects that rely on a creature going to the graveyard, and then they are exiled. Once the exile happens, they are no longer considered to be in the graveyard, so they won't be counted by things like Nighthowler or Wight of Precinct Six

The token dies, enters the graveyard, and immediately ceases to exist. It does not remain in the graveyard and so can not be targeted by anything and will not count towards effects such as Avatar of Woe 's. It does however trigger any abilities that care about creatures dying.

@ljs54321: The tokens aren't exiled. Exile is a game zone and a specific action. The tokens cease to exist.

Well, we send them to a nice farm upstate where they can run free and have lots of friends, where they'll be happy....

No. Tokens die, meaning they go from the battlefield to the graveyard, but they then cease to exist as a state-based action. They trigger on-death abilities.
Besides, effects that refer to creatures in graveyards always say "creature cards," meaning they don't count tokens.
