What's a mutant?

Asked by AlphaD 11 years ago

In Master Biomancer 's effect he makes all creatures that come in become mutants. Is Door of Destinies 's effect the only thing that this is good for? Thanks in advance.

I was wondering if the card type did anything by itself but thanks for the suggestion, PrimeSpeaky.

Door of Destinies ' effect actually wouldn't work with Master Biomancer the way you think it will. If you read the text on Door, it say's "Whenever you cast a spell of the chosen type..." but because Master Biomancer's effect doesn't take affect until they "Enter the battlefield..." meaning after they resolve, you won't place a charge counter on Door after naming Mutants.

A mutant is just another creature type, like Soldier or Minotaur. By the way, there is no interaction between Door of Destinies and the Mutants that Master Biomancer makes. When you have Master Biomancer out, your creatures enter the battlefield as Mutants, but they aren't Mutant spells when you cast them. Door of Destinies only cares about casting cards of the chosen type.

These days there is no creature type that has any rules baggage with it. There are creature types that tend to consistently use similar mechanics (particularly walls), but you don't have to memorize rules for creature types.

@TitansFTW While they won't trigger the addition of +1/+1 counters to the Door when they enter the battlefield, they totally interact with Door's third ability, of getting buffed by the number of counters on the door.

There are 43 creatures that are already mutants on their own that can be adding counters to the door for the Biomancer's mutants to get buffed by.

Also, if you were playing Conspiracy naming mutants, they are mutant spells on the stack and would trigger the door.
