What is the ruling on transform cards in commander?

Asked by chrizzilla 11 years ago

I was just thinking of this. Could I play a card that transforms into something that couldn't be played normally?

For instance, say my commander is Derevi, Master Tactician. Can I play with Daybreak Ranger  Flip in my deck?

No, sorry.

No. Unfortunately the back side counts for colors, so Elbrus, the Binding Blade  Flip can only be played in commander decks with black, Garruk Relentless  Flip can only be played in decks with green and black, Civilized Scholar  Flip can only be played in decks with red and blue, and Daybreak Ranger  Flip can only be played in decks with green and red.

There are more examples, but you get the point.

Additionally, you can't play Crimson Kobolds in a deck without red, even though it costs 0.
