so with Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind does his 1 damage to a player or permanent count as combat damage??

No.

Combat damage is damage dealt by attacking and blocking creatures during the combat damage step of the combat phase.

Nope. Curiosity does though, since it only wants damage, rather than combat damage.

ya i know about curiosity but i was thinking of other possibility's also likeOphidian Eye to bad it doesn't count as damage,yup, thx tho

Combat damage is only damage assigned and dealt as a turn-based action by attacking or blocking creatures during a combat damage step as a result of those creatures attacking/blocking.

Damage from a spell or ability is NEVER combat damage.
