What happens to lands and Titania's Song??

Asked by Crouch130 1 year ago

If there is a Mycosynth Lattice in play and you put Titania's Song into play, do lands die, because they have no CMC, and does the everything remain artificial creatures or does Titania's Song cancel it self out because it’s a non-creature artifact?

Yes lands die. They have a Mana Value of 0 (even things with no mana cost have a MV/CMC) and turn into 0/0s dying unless you have an anthem.

The ability can't remove itself. By the time it is removed it has already applied, so it doesn't matter that it was removed.

That makes sense. So if Titania's Song abilities are removed because of it own effect, then any non-creature artifacts played after would not be affected by the ability. Which would allow you to play lands as a land?

They would still be affected by Titania's Song. In the system of layers that determines the characteristics of objects, type changing effects are applied in layer 4 and ability adding/removing effects are applied later in layer 6. This means the part of Titania's Song's ability that changes non-creature artifacts into creatures is always applied before the part that removes abilities (including its own).

In addition, abilities apply in dependency order, meaning Mycosynth Lattice will always apply before Titania's Song in Layer 4 so that it can apply to all permanents. Once an effect starts applying within a layer, it will continue to apply in later layers. This means if something explicitly removes Titania's Song's ability, it will do so (most likely) in Layer 6, after the ability already started applying, so it will still remove all abilities and set power and toughness.
