Villainous wealth on paradox engine

Asked by K34 6 years ago

Villainous Wealth lets me cast the cards i steal, rather than just put them onto the battlefield. Paradox Engine untaps all my nonlands whenever I cast a spell. Since mana abilities happen without the stack structure, can i untap my rocks and dorks in between when I cast all my stolen goodies, thereby creating even more mana?

The answer to what you want to do is "yes", but let's clear up the details: All of the spells get cast during Villainous Wealth's resolution and you won't be able to activate any mana abilities at that time. You're only allowed to activate mana abilities either when you have priority or when you're specifically in a cost-paying step of announcing or resolving a spell/ability. However, Paradox Engine triggers for each of those spells, and the triggers are put onto the stack on top of the spells. You're allowed to activate the mana abilities in-between each trigger resolving.

You may be able to activate mana abilities during the resolution of Villainous Wealth if a card you are casting asks for a mana payment, such as a card with kicker or if you have to pay mana for the cards you're casting due to a Sphere of Resistance. As Rhadamanthus mentioned though, Paradox Engine's trigger will not yet have been put on the stack nor resolved, so your mana might be limited (you should have still untapped them once from casting Villainous Wealth though).
