venser/ glimmerpoint stag effect

Asked by MakoLifeStream 14 years ago

Im having difficulty understanding which turn the exiled card comes back on. Glimmerpoint Stag reads "-return that card to the battlefield under its owner's control at the beginning of the next end step".

So who's turn is the card coming back on? Mine or my opponents?

The next end step is the end step of whatever turn it is. You exile something during your main step when you play Glimmerpoint Stag and the card returns to play at the end of that turn.

"The next end step" means the next time a turn ends the exiled card will return. Assuming you cast the Stag normally, it means your end step. If you had Leyline of Anticipation on the field and cast the Stag in your opponent's turn, the card you exiled would return in their end step.

If you have Venser, the Sojourner out and you bounce Glimmerpoint Stag , the stag will come back at the beginning of your end step. You then exhile something and it will come back at the beginning of your opponents end step. Glimmerpoint Stag activates after the beginning of your end step, so when it bounces something, it has to wait for the next end step to come back. It turns out that it's your opponent's end step.

Oh. If Venser, the Sojourner is being thrown into the mix...Kristus has it right.

513.3. If a permanent with an ability that triggers "at the beginning of the end step" enters the battlefield during this step, that ability won't trigger until the next turn's end step. Likewise, if a delayed triggered ability that triggers "at the beginning of the next end step" is created during this step, that ability won't trigger until the next turn's end step. In other words, the step doesn't "back up" so those abilities can go on the stack. This rule applies only to triggered abilities; it doesn't apply to continuous effects whose durations say "until end of turn" or "this turn." (See rule 514, "Cleanup Step.")

Flickerwisp + Momentary Blink same effect?

If you cast Blink in the end phase, yes. Momentary Blink, unlike Venser or Glimmerpoint Stag, returns the permanent it exiles to the battlefield immediately as part of it's resolution, unlike the others which wait until the end phase to return the permanent they exile.
