Using Gravepurge as an interrupt for Tasigur's ability

Asked by Firetra 8 years ago

So this was a question I was brewing over for a while and honestly don't want to be outed for in a tournament. So my thought is that using Tasigur, the Golden Fang's ability to put cards into the graveyard, once the cards are in the graveyard can I interrupt the ability with Gravepurge to pull out a low cost creature that I don't want being selected by my opponent. So lets just give a scenario, I use the ability to put a Murderous Cut and a Elvish Mystic into my graveyard, and I want the murderous cut in my hand. Before I select an opponent/the opponent chooses a card, can I play Gravepurge to place the Elvish Mystic on top of my library and into my hand. And if I can do that, does the opponent have the option to pick gravepurge since it would resolve and go into the graveyard?

Short answer: No.

Long answer: If you've put cards into the graveyard with Tasigur's ability, that ability has started resolving. Players can't cast spells or activate abilities in the middle of other spells and abilities resolving. You have to let Tasigur's ability fully resolve (which includes giving your opponent the option of giving you your Mystic back) before you can cast another spell.

Thank you! I thought that was the case, but I just wanted to make sure in case I found a way to basically force someone to give me a card I want.
