Thrun "indestructablity"
Asked by benjiwimp 11 years ago
I've been thinking about Thrun, the Last Troll a bit and i've decided that there must be a way to kill him other than tapping out their lands and killing it with creatures but with instants or sorceries. So i want to ask whether Wrath of God would kill it. I wonder this because it says spells that target it. If so, would a card that doesn't specifically target it be able to kill it such as Damnation or Wrath of God
Wrath of God is a mass effect card (there's an actual phrase for it, but I can't remember it at the moment). It ignores "can't be target of spells and abilities" because, like Devonin said, it's not targeting Thrun.

I think the word you are searching for Markova is "Global Effect". cards like Wrath of God do not target but rather hit ALL things specified within its ruling text (such as "all creatures" from Wrath of God ).
There are "local effects" such as auras and "global effects" which effect everything of the same type (i.e., Honor of the Pure affects all white creatures you control).

Spells only target if the word 'target' appears in their rules text.
Thrun's ability only prevents being targeted. Wrath of God and effects like it don't target, so that ability of his is ignored. And given than they both prevent regeneration, that ability can't save Thrun either.
