Stacking CoCo hit ETB abilities

Asked by shelldell 7 years ago

Assume an empty board. You cast CoCo and select two copies of Thalia's Lieutenant.

1) I understand that they both enter the battlefield simultaneously and see each other entering. Does this mean that they trigger both of each other's abilities and they both become 3/3?

2) This time you instead select two copies of Metallic Mimic with an empty board. By entering simultaneously do they become 3/2s?

Thank you!

1) Yes, you'll have 4 triggers to stack as you choose. They'll both enter as 1/1s, but once all teh dust settles they'll be 3/3s

2) No. Only replacement effects already on the battlefield, or replacement effects on the card can effect how it enters. Effects on other cards entering at the same time cannot change how something enters.

From Gatherer:

  • If Thalias Lieutenant enters the battlefield at the same time as another Human, each of Thalias Lieutenants abilities will trigger. Youll put a +1/+1 counter on both cards.

And...

  • Creatures of the chosen type that enter the battlefield at the same time as Metallic Mimic wont enter with an additional +1/+1 counter.

  • Even though Metallic Mimic is a Shapeshifter, other Shapeshifter creatures you control wont get a +1/+1 counter unless you chose Shapeshifter as Metallic Mimic entered the battlefield. If you do, that creature must be entering the battlefield as a Shapeshifter to get a +1/+1 counter. It wont get a +1/+1 counter if it enters the battlefield as a copy of a non-Shapeshifter creature.

So it appears to be a "yes" for Thalia's and a "no" for Mimic.

Ah, that's too bad on #2. Thanks for the answers, though!
