Soulfire Grand Master + Arcbond interaction
Asked by labanog 9 years ago
hi i have Soulfire Grand Master in play and a 5/5 attacks me and he has 2 other 5/5 attacking me. then during my blocking step i cast Arcbond on my master.
what happen?
because of Arcbond it kills all my opponent 3x 5/5 creature right? as it redirects damage back to them? also dealing 5 damage to me and my master and my opponent?
do my Soulfire Grand Master also triggers? do i gain also 5+5+5+5+5+5 = 30 life in total?
do my grandmaster also dies right?
do i still get damage on the other 2x 5/5 attacking me? since theire suppose to die during arcbond?
You would take 10 minus the 2 lifelink gained from sgm during combat damage, then if still alive the arc bond resolves. You WILL gain life as the damage is from sgm, and when a creature deals damage, but leaves to a different zone you use the last known information. In this case, sgm had lifelink.
You life would then go up by 20, you would get 15 from his creatures, 5 from him, the damage done to you would cancel out since lifelink happpens as damage occurs. So a net gain of 12 for the turn.
All creatures you meantioned would die.

All damage happens simultaneously. Triggered abilities that check for damage, like the delayed triggered ability on Arcbond, will trigger AFTER damage has been dealt. That means several things:
1/ You will be dealt 10 damage from the two other attackers.
2/ Grandmaster is dead before the ability of arcbond hits the stack.
3/ Assuming you are not already dead. arcbound will trigger and resolve making SGM deal 5 damage to everything.
4/ Assuming you are still not dead after taking 15 damage, You will not gain any life off of that, because SGM is already dead and even if you somehow had another one alive, the creature is the source of the damage in the case of Arcbond, so no lifegain from all the damage.
5/ SGM has no trigger, but a replacement effect that modifies how damage dealing spells resolve.
6/ Arcbond does not redirect damage. As stated above, it is delayed trigger ability. Deflecting Palm is an example of a spell with a delayed trigger ability that prevents and redirects damage.
I hope i did not miss anything.
