Reverse Damage vs Hexproof

Asked by MandorUK 11 years ago

I was playing FNM last week, and my opponent was beating down with Nivix Cyclops buffed with Artful Dodge , Armed/Dangerous and Mizzium Skin as i cannot block, or Path to Exile can I Reverse Damage to gain a boat load then deal with threat next turn?

i am thinking that the text says ''The next time a source of your choice would deal damage to you this turn, prevent that damage. You gain life equal to the damage prevented this way'' as the word ''target'' is not present then hexproof is no defense against it.

The answer here is tricky. Technically yes, Reverse Damage will prevent the NEXT but only the NEXT damage that a source would deal to you (in this case Nivix Cyclops .

However, in this particular instance, your opponent has cast Armed / Dangerous and the DOUBLE STRIKE damage from the cyclops counts as a SECOND source of damage and that damage would go through to you as unblockable damage.

Say he casted Artful Dodge then Mizzium Skin then Armed / Dangerous on his Nivix Cyclops then declared attack. The cyclops would receive +10/+11 and unblockable and hexproof. If you cast Reverse Damage you would prevent the 11/15 cyclops from dealing 11 first strike damage, but then it would deal 11 double strike damage to you.

Although, if I were your opponent, I would flashback the Artful Dodge and re-cast it on the cyclops so you took 14 damage instead.

Nevermind it's a sorcery. But yeah.
