Rancor returns to hand, too big?
Asked by Sarv 11 years ago
Say I've put 2x Rancor on my Vampire Nighthawk and then my Vampire Nighthawk gets killed. The 2x Rancor then return to my hand. If my hand was already 7 and is now 9 do i have to choose 2 cards from my hand to discard? or just not return the 2x Rancor to my hand?
You don't actually have to discard down to legal hand size until the end step. So if you can play 2 cards from your hand, maybe re-play the rancors on another creature, then you will not have to discard anything. The other option would be to play something like Reliquary Tower or ultimate Tamiyo, the Moon Sage so that you have no maximum hand size.

At the end of each of your turns, there is a discard phase/step, in which you discard down to maximum hand size if you exceed it. At the end of the turn where rancor was returned to hand, you would have to choose and discard 2 cards, or simply discard until you had 7 left.

It's also worth noting that you only have to discard on your turn. If your opponent kills your Nighthawk on his turn and the returning auras make your hand size to big, you're okay.

@ the end of your turn, if you still had over seven cards, then you would need to discard down to 7. In the course of your turn your hand can be larger than seven cards.
