Question about Ob Nixilis, Unshackled and Languish

Asked by AddyRuffs 9 years ago

Okay, so let's say I have Ob Nixilis, Unshackled on the field. I then decided to play Languish. It will deal -4/-4 to all creatures. What takes priority? Do the other creatures die first and give Ob a +1/+1 for each one that died this way or do they all just day simultaneously?

Thanks in advance.

Please link the cards in your question by surounding them in these brackets:

[ [ ob nixilis, unshackled] ] minus the spaces becomes Ob Nixilis, Unshackled. Same for Languish.

Obi wan Nixilisi has what is called a triggered ability. It is identified easily since it usually begins with "Whenever, when, at".

So, Languish happens and lets say the opponent has 3 1/1 spirit tokens from Triplicate Spirits. Only after they die do they trigger ob nixilis' ability. Unfortunately, Ob Nixilis was also caught in the Languish and died as well, so those trigger will be put on the stack, but do nothing, since Ob Nixilis is no more.

Unless otherwise specified, a spell or ability that affects a group of objects affects all of those objects simultaneously. Languish doesn't specify any order in which its effect is to be applied, so all creatures get -4/-4 ("deal" is used only in reference to damage) simultaneously. Any creature that has 0 or less toughness afterward will die as a state-based action before triggered abilities are placed onto the stack.
