Propaganda and Geist of St Traft

Asked by jfletch 12 years ago

If I control a PropagandaMTG Card: Propaganda and my opponent iss attacking with a creature that cheats another creature into play (e.g. Geist of Saint TraftMTG Card: Geist of Saint Traft, Hero of Bladehold]], Kaalia of the VastMTG Card: Kaalia of the Vast), do they have to pay the two mana for the extra attackers that came out tapped and attacking, or just the original 2 to send the first attacker at me? Does the same thing apply for Kazuul, Tyrant of the CliffsMTG Card: Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs or is it different because paying 3 is optional?

Thanks!

No extra cost would have to be payed for the angel token.

508.4. If a creature is put onto the battlefield attacking, its controller chooses which defending player or which planeswalker a defending player controls it's attacking as it enters the battlefield (unless the effect that put it onto the battlefield specifies what it's attacking). Such creatures are "attacking" but, for the purposes of trigger events and effects, they never "attacked."

What he said.

PropagandaMTG Card: Propaganda triggers when you declare an attack. Because Geist of Saint TraftMTG Card: Geist of Saint Traft's token is already attacking when it enters the battlefield, PropagandaMTG Card: Propaganda never sees it declare an attack, so it won't trigger.

Another thing that is in a similar vein is if you attack with just Mr. Traft he will trigger exaulted (a mechanic that deals with "if a creature attacks alone it gets...")

Nitpick: propoganda is not a triggered ability. But things still work as has been said.

The cost from PropagandaMTG Card: Propaganda prevents creatures from attacking without paying the cost. Since the angel comes in attacking, it circumvents that additional cost. Same would be true with Kaalia of the VastMTG Card: Kaalia of the Vast.
