Proliferating counters onto Illusions

Asked by Grimaldii 12 years ago

Hello Folks!I'm fairly new to the game, and I've been thinking of adding a Contagion Engine to my illusion deck to add power to a Flux Cannon, Steel Hellkites and AEther Figment (can't splash out on wurms). Can I add tokens to the AEther Figment , or will that kill it, being an illusion? and do all illusions innately have "When x becomes the target of a spell or ability, sacrifice it." or only if it's specifically mentioned?

Many thanks!

No to both questions.

An effect only targets if its text specifically uses the word target. Proliferate doesn't say target, so it doesn't target.

AEther Figment doesn't have a sacrifice ability because that ability is not written on the card. No creatures have inherent abilities based on their types. Walls used to, but they have since received errata to say defender. Not all illusions have the sacrifice ability that Phantasmal Image has.
