Phantasmal Image + Undying + Hex Parasite

Asked by scholar 13 years ago

If I have a Phantasmal ImageMTG Card: Phantasmal Image in play that's a copy of Geralf's MessengerMTG Card: Geralf's Messenger and the Phantasmal ImageMTG Card: Phantasmal Image already has a +1/+1 counter on it from an undying trigger -- if I were to target it with the ability of Hex ParasiteMTG Card: Hex Parasite to remove its +1/+1 counter, does the Hex ParasiteMTG Card: Hex Parasite ability resolve before the Phantasmal ImageMTG Card: Phantasmal Image is sacrificed? Trying to find out if I can keep its undying trigger alive. Thanks all!

When you target the Image with Parasite's ability, the "sacrifice me" ability triggers, and is put onto the stack on top of the Parasite's ability. That means the "sacrifice me" ability will always resolve first, and the counter will still be there when it dies.

Sorry, the Phantasmal ImageMTG Card: Phantasmal Image dies.

Targeting the Hex ParasiteMTG Card: Hex Parasite's ability at the Phantasmal ImageMTG Card: Phantasmal Image will trigger its ability, placing the sacrifice trigger on top of the stack. This means that the Phantasmal ImageMTG Card: Phantasmal Image will be in the graveyard by the time Hex ParasiteMTG Card: Hex Parasite's ability resolves.

If, for some reason, you decide to StifleMTG Card: Stifle the triggered ability, then it'd work though!
