Pearl Medallion agains Defense Grid

I control Pearl Medallion and my opponent controls a Defense Grid. I want to cast Path to Exile on the opponent's turn. What should I play for it? Does my opponent choose the order of the abilities? Because if the Grid works first I can pay 3. If the Medallion does, I pay 4.

Cost increases and decreases are not applied in any particular order, but are rather totaled up and the net value is applied instead. So in this case the cost would be modified by 3 - 1 = 2 meaning your Path to Exile will cost 2W.

Part of the process of casting a spell is figuring out the cost of the spell.

(cost of the spell)+(cost increases)-(cost decreases) = total cost of the spell

So, in this case it will be + - =
