Orb of Dreams, Amulet of Vigor
Asked by Colten_Lee 10 years ago
Okay, I feel like this is a no but I just want to make sure. I know that if I have multiple of the Amulet out and I play something that enters tapped, a Guildgate for instance, it will trigger each of them separately and I can tap after each resolution adding multiple Mana to my Mana pool. But if I have multiple Orbs out as well, will it tap whatever I play in between untaps?
Ex. 4 Orbs, 4 Amulets. I then cast any vanilla creature. What happens??

Permanents typically only enter the battlefield once. So if you played a vanilla creature it would enter the battlefield tapped, and all four amulet triggers would go on the stack in whatever order you chose (although the order wouldn't make any difference). As the triggers resolved, the vanilla creature would not be "re-entering the battlefield" so Orb would have no effect. The creature would untap as the first trigger resolved, and then other three triggers would resolve and do nothing.

Yuns answered it perfectly. So since its a static ability(Orb) multiple instances mean nothing. Thanks very much.

Yes. There are some cases in which static abilities do stack (see Sapphire Medallion and Doubling Season), but Orb of Dreams's ability doesn't actually do anything if multiple instances are applied to the same event.

Yeah makes sense. The medallion would make it cost 1 less, then a second would modify the now 1 less cost to and additional 1 less.

Right.
Technically, when multiple replacement effects would apply to an event, the affected player applies one first. Then, if any other replacement effects could apply, the affected player applies another one. This process is repeated until no other replacement effects could be applied.
Orb of Dreams's replacement effect merely becomes redundant in multiple instances. The other instances still apply, but they don't change anything about the event because the permanent is already going to enter the battlefield tapped.

Orb of Dreams has a static ability that defines a replacement effect that modifies how permanents enter the battlefield.
Amulet of Vigor has a triggered ability that triggers whenever a permanent enters the battlefield tapped.
Static abilities don't stack, so only the first Orb of Dreams really matters. The rest are redundant.
I'm not quite sure what you're asking when you write "But if I have multiple Orbs out as well, will it tap whatever I play in between untaps?"
If you cast a vanilla creature in the described scenario, it'll enter the battlefield tapped, and each of your Amulet of Vigors' abilities will trigger. The first ability to resolve will untap it, and the other three will do nothing unless the creature becomes tapped before they resolve.
