On Gelatinous genesis, how does the XX part work in the mana cost

Asked by Nuubi 5 years ago

So, on Gelatinous Genesis it cost XX and a green and it says create X X/X tokens. My question is, does the XX in the casting cost mean that you have to at least pay 2 more then the one green required or does it mean that what ever you pay for XX must be divided up into X for how many tokens and X for the power and toughness? For instance if I pay 10 into it, so 1 green and 9 into XX, does that mean I create 9 9/9 tokens or would I have to divide 9 between the amount of them and the power and toughness of them, like 4 5/5 tokens or 8 1/1 tokens or how ever you divide it?

You choose a value for X. That value applies in each place where X appears on the card.

So if you choose X=5, you will pay , and put 5 Ooze creature tokens onto the battlefield with power and toughness 5/5.

If you choose X=1, you will pay , and get 1 token with power and toughness 1/1.

And so on.

It's basically the same as any other spell, except you have to pay twice as much for your returns.

So,Kogarashi in example one where you said X=5 does that mean you paid 11? 5 into the first x and 5 into the other with a the extra being the required green?

Yes, you would pay 11 if X=5.

As ClockworkSwordfish said, you basically have to pay twice as much.

Compare to Astral Cornucopia , which has a casting cost of , and will enter with X charge counters on it. If you want 3 counters on it, you'd have to pay 9 mana (3+3+3).

Well that’s definitely not as good as I thought it was...lol. And to top it off I literally just picked up a copy of astral cornucopia thinking it was way better as well...
