states that if it is "played" from your hand, not cast.
Can I cheat it into play to get the divinity counter on it? Elvish Piper , Quicksilver Amulet , Braid, conjurer adept!?
No, you can't. However, you CAN get a divinity counter if you used an ability or spell that instead lets you play/cast it from hand without paying its mana cost, although I don't know any card that does that at the moment. Oracle ruling:
601.1a Some effects still refer to "playing" a card. "Playing a card" means playing that card as a land or casting that card as a spell, whichever is appropriate.

Omniscience does, but with the enchantment out, you don't need the creature

Older cards use the word "play" the way modern cards use the word "cast".

No. The updated Oracle ruling for Myojin of Life's Web from Gatherer replaces "played" with "cast."
"Myojin of Life's Web enters the battlefield with a divinity counter on it if you cast it from your hand."
