Multiple Counterspells on Single Target

Player 1: cast Primeval Titan
Player 2: respond to titan. cast Desertion.
Player 3: respond to desertion. cast Counterspell targeting titan.

Is the titan a legal target for the Counterspell. if the counterspell resolves, will player 2's desertion fizzle and not steal the Primeval Titan?

Yes to all.

Any spell on the stack (besides itself) is a legal target for counterspell. Counterspell will resolve before Desertion and leave it with no targets, so it will "fizzle" and go straight to the graveyard.
