Mimeoplasm and Corpsejack Menace
Asked by gmac1993 11 years ago
Lets say I cast The Mimeoplasm and choose to exile a Corpsejack Menace and a 3/3 creature (it doesn't matter what the other creature is).
Would The Mimeoplasm come into play with three +1/+1 counters and the Corpsejack's ability, or would it come in with six +1/+1 counters and the Corpsejack's Ability, due to counters being doubled?
When a creature enters the battlefield with counters on it, the game is technically putting it onto the battlefield and then adding the counters (Though it happens all at once in a way you can't respond to) so the ability it stole from Corpsejack Menace will work, and it will enter with 6 counters.

(This is also why things like Master Biomancer say "Each other creature enters" and not "Each creature enters" or it would give counters to itself.

This creature only enters the battlefield with 3 +1/+1 counters. A replacement effect in the ability of a creature can only modify how it enters the battlefield if that ability only applies to itself. The ability on Corpsejack Menace applies to a broad class of objects beyond itself, so it isn't taken into account as it enters the battlefield.
This is the same reason behind why a Tatterkite who gains Persist comes back from the graveyard with no -1/-1 counter, but a Melira, Sylvok Outcast who gains persist does get a -1/-1 counter as comes back.

Forgot to add: the game isn't technically putting the creature onto the battlefield first and then adding counters. The creature enters with the counters already on it. There's a special rule that specifically says this counts as "placing" the counters.

Let me clarify that I chose to take the Corpsejack's ability, and take the counters equal to power of the other creature.
