Mentor of the Meek + Honor of the Pure

Asked by HelixSnapHelix 13 years ago

If I have Mentor of the Meek and an Honor of the Pure out on the field, and I'm looking to cast a sayyy Mirran Crusader , am I still able to use the mentor's ability and pay an extra mana for a draw? Mentor of the Meek says when a creature with power 2 or less "enters the battlefield", but don't creatures get +1/+1 as they enter the battlefield as well from Honor of the Pure ? Which happens first?

Honor of the Pure "happens" first. It's a static ability, which means that it applies to white creatures as long as both the creature and Honor of the Pure are on the battlefield. A 2/2 white creature will ETB as a 3/3. So no, Mentor of the Meek 's ability doesn't trigger on a Mirran Crusader in this case.

still doesnt make sence to me how a static ability that only effects creatures when ther IN PLAY makes a 2/2 enter the play as a 3/3 when the effect shouldnt be doing anthing to it untill it enters play

It makes sense because the static ability affects creatures for the entire time they're on the battlefield. With an Honor of the Pure , there is no time at which a Mirran Crusader would be 2/2 while it's on the battlefield, so there's no event for Mentor of the Meek to trigger from.
