Mana leak + Mana leak
Asked by jkilla4rilla 13 years ago
so i play a Blade Splicer , my opponent casts Mana Leak and i pay the three, can he then cast another Mana Leak and make me pay three more?

There is no rule which states that only one counterspell may be used per spell. Typically, stacking Mana Leak s is the only way that they are effective in the late game.
Also, you paying 3 does not satisfy both Mana Leaks.

he played mana leak inresponce to you spell to counter it, waited for it to resolve on the stack and force you to pay 3,
he then played a 2nd mana leak inresonce to the same spell since it hasnt had a chance to resolve yet,
if you dont pay the 1st 3 it gets countered and he still has a mana leak left,
if you pay the 1st 3 but not the 2nd 3 for a total of 6 the spell will be countered,
if you do pay the 1st 3 and the 2nd 3 for a total of 6 and he does not play any other counters your spell will resolve properly

Wouldn't he need to play both mana leaks at once for this to work? If he let the first mana leak resolve to see if the three mana was payed wouldn't the whole stack resolve before he could play the second? I thought that after each player let the stack resolve, the whole stack would resolve before they could play spells again.

No. Each player must pass priority, then the top object on the stack resolves and the active player gets priority again. Multiple objects on the stack never resolve simultaneously, and state-based checks also after each resolution but before priority.

A: yes he can play another mana leak after you have payed 3, however think of it this way, you just forced him to give up cards to counter one spell! loosing card advantage
@epochalyptk that's not entirely true, if one of the spells has split second then you can't. But thats me being pedantic instead of the norm, you have nop idea how many times iv played Doom Blade ect with a Sudden Death chaser to remove creatures with out a chance for response

I didn't even realize how old this thread was, but entropy101 is still wrong. Objects on the stack resolve one at a time. Split second doesn't make other spells uncounterable.

Yes, he can. He can keep playing instants until he runs out of mana or until some effect prevents him from doing it.
