Lowering morphing costs

Asked by riddlechest 8 years ago

I was wondering if I could use Heartless Summoning to lower the morphing costs. But what are those costs?

Do I Need Heartless Summoning or maybe Training Grounds?

Heartless Summoning would reduce the amount of mana you need to cast a morphed creature from to because it reduces casting costs and morph is an alternate casting cost, and cost reductions apply to alternate casting costs when applicable. It does not affect the action of "morphing" the creature and turning it face up.

Training Grounds will not affect the cost to morph a creature because morphing is not an activated ability, it is a special action.

117.9d If an alternative cost is being paid to cast a spell, any additional costs, cost increases, and cost reductions that affect that spell are applied to that alternative cost. (See rule 601.2f.)

702.36e Any time you have priority, you may turn a face-down permanent you control with a morph ability face up. This is a special action; it doesnt use the stack (see rule 115).

Okay, thank you.

Are there any cards to lower those morphing costs?

Thanks in advance.

That isn't a rules question and would be best asked elsewhere, but I can save you time and just say no, there isn't any such card. There is only one card that interacts with morph costs, and it increases them by : Exiled Doomsayer

Casting face down creatures is one thing. There's also Dream Chisel, as well as any effect that lowers the cost of casting creatures, like Cloud Key and Heartless Summoning mentioned above. None of them effect the action of morphing.
