Klothys, God of Destiny

Asked by NonetheWeisser 3 years ago

Am I able to use Klothys the second it enters the battle field as long as it is in my main phase one? The "precombat main phase" verbiage is confusing me.

Sorry for the dumb question. Just want to make sure.

I do not think so. The reason is it says "at the beginning of your precombat main phase". This should mean that once you are in your pre combat main phase, the ability won't trigger because you aren't going in to your precombat main phase. Hope that helps.

In the future, the "Rules Q&A" at the top of the page (or in the drop-down list from the three lines on mobile) is the place for this sort of post. Thanks!

Affirming Mtg_Mega_Nerds's answer as correct since the response seemed a bit uncertain. Klothys, God of Destiny 's ability is a triggered ability and the triggering event is "the beginning of your precombat main phase". Permanents with triggered abilities do not look back in time--they will only trigger if the triggering event occurs while said permanent is on the battlefield.

Also, as Omniscience_is_life mentioned, please use the Rules Q&A section in the future. That section has some additional functionality, including the ability to "Mark as Answer" a response to indicate your question has been resolved. I have moved this thread to Rules Q&A, if you could mark a response when you have no further follow-up questions, that would be appreciated.

Finally, it helps if you link the cards you are discussing using double brackets, like so:

[[Klothys, God of Destiny]]

Which produces: Klothys, God of Destiny

I'm just going to add here (to be totally clear) that you don't "use" Klothys's ability. Since it's a triggered ability, it will happen when it says it happens and at no other time. An activated ability (one that you can use) always starts with a cost you can pay to use the ability (written "cost: effect"), and you can typically use these any time you can pay the cost. Klothys's trigger happens at the beginning of your first main phase, right after your draw step.

To answer in a bit broader way, abilities do not retroactively trigger. If the trigger condition for an ability has already passed, it will not trigger until that event comes around the next time.

As I mentioned, if you have no further questions, please hit the Green “mark as answer” button on a post to move the thread to the “answered questions” category. As you indicated you have no further questions, I have marked an answer on your behalf.
