Kaalia of the Vast and Vigilance
Asked by arobidoux 13 years ago
So I was just wondering about this type of interaction.
I attack with my Kaalia of the Vast and decide to put into play my Tariel, Reckoner of Souls .
Since Kaalia states that when she attacks I put an Angel, Dragon, or Demon creature from my hand onto the battlefield tapped and attacking, and the ruling for vigilance is that when it attacks it doesn't tap, does my creature I put into the battlefield with Kaalia's ability come into play attacking but not tapped?
This is of course assuming that the creature that I am putting into play has vigilance.
Vigilance means that declaring the creature as an attacker won't cause it to tap like normal. Cards put into play attacking aren't declared as attackers like normal, so Vigilance doesn't apply.

When an effect specifies that a card enters the battlefield in a certain way, it takes precedence over the way that card would normally enter. For example, say you cast Cultivate and search for two Forests. While a basic land would normally enter the battlefield untapped, Cultivate specifies that it must enter tapped, and therefore changes how the land actually does enter. Another example would be Due Respect .
Additionally, as Siegfried said, vigilance modifies how a creature behaves when it is declared as an attacker. It does not do anything for a creature that enters the battlefield attacking because that creature was not declared as an attacker.

it is tapped, it doesn't matter if it has vigilance, it enters the battlefield tapped. If you had say an Amulet of Vigor it would be different.
