is "whenever you play a spell of that type" the same as "whenever chosen card type enters the battlefield"?

So i have Door of Destinies and I want to know if it can also be worded as "whenever a creature of the chosen type enters the battlefield". The reason being is that if this is how its is now worded, my Krenko, Mob Boss edh get a huge power boost.

No, sorry. They are not the same.

In order for Door of Destinies to be triggered, you must specifically "cast" a spell of the chosen type. The goblin tokens generated by Krenko are not "cast," they only ETB. You could actually still trigger Door of Destinies by casting a goblin that never actually enters the battlefield, like say if someone plays Counterspell. You still did cast the card, so the Door still triggers.

Effects that trigger solely by something "entering the battlefield" are different, and would trigger any time the required object ETBs, even if it wasn't actually cast by a player.

Door of Destinies is still a good card for a Krenko deck though, at least imho.

To add on, tribal cards (like Tarfire if you named goblins) will trigger to put a counter on Door of Destinies.
