Is ''putting a creature on the battlefield'' casting?

Asked by Kamosz 11 years ago

If I would, for example, use Cateran Slaver 's ability would the creature still be casted? And in tht chase trigger a card like Isolation Cell ? Or what about Tainted AEther ?

Thanks in advantage :)

It would trigger Tainted AEther . It would not trigger Isolation Cell .

Creatures being put onto the battlefield by an effect such as Cateran Slaver 's aren't cast, so enters the battlefield triggers will still trigger for them but cast triggers will not. Creature spells are cast just like any other spell: By playing it from your hand by paying its costs, or by an effect which says that you can "play" or "cast" it in some other way (such as Chandra, Pyromaster 's middle ability).

no, putting a creature into play this way is an ability, or the result of a specific spell. but casting a creature is paying it's mana cost and moving in from your hand to the battlefield.

Examples of non-creature casting creatures...

Advent of the Wurm is not a creature spell, even though it puts a creature onto the battlefield.

Pattern of Rebirth is an enchantment, put on a creature. when it dies you can put another creature from library into play.

And there are many others...
