Interaction between enchantments untapping land on attack

Asked by DanLane 7 years ago

Hypothetical scenerio:

Experiment One with a +1 +1Shorecrasher Mimic

enchant Experiment One with Bear Umbra

attack with both

use untapped lands to flash in Bounding Krasis, or to put a Simic Charm as the +3 +3 onto Shorecrasher Mimic

is this legal?

Would the flash in activate Shorecrasher Mimic shapeshift effect before the damage lands? Could I potentially enchant with Bear Umbra, swing, and then cast the instant Simic Charm before the defender blocks to get an 8/6 Shorecrasher Mimic and a 4/4 Experiment One, for 12 damage?

Your question is quite hard to understand... please make an effort to write in full sentences next time, as that really helps.

First of all, combat damage happens in the combat damage step - before that, there's a declare attacker and a declare blocker step, both of which give players priority (to cast spells and activate abilities). In either of those steps, you could cast Simic Charm, and if you do it in the declare attackers step, you'd get the effect before blockers can be declared (while generally speaking, as the attacking player, you'd benefit from holding off until blockers are declared with buffs).

Now, Shorecrasher Mimic doesn't have an activated, but a triggered ability. In this scenario, it would trigger from both Simic Charm and Bounding Krasis.

So yeah, as far as I can tell, everything works exactly as you want it to.

Okay heres what I really want to know and I'll be more specific.

Here's the opening board state on my upkeep:

I have a 2/2 Experiment OneI have a 2/1 Shorecrasher Mimic

I have 4 open lands, or 3 lands and a Birds of Paradise, whatever.

Okay so I use the 4 mana to cast Bear Umbra onto Experiment One, then I attack.

Heres the thing:

"When this creature attacks untap all your land"

Does bear umbra untap my lands before the damage lands?

If so can I declare the attack, tap my Experiment, then untap my land before my opponents declare defenders step and then instant cast Simic Charm, effectively using 6 mana on my first main/declare attack step? Or do I have to wait until my second main phase to use the untapped land from the Bear Umbra attack?

Yes you can do that.

When Experiment One attacks, the Totem triggers and untaps all of your lands.

At the end of the declare attackers step, each player has the opportunity to cast or activate their own spells and abilities. You will be able to cast Simic Charm before you move to the declare blockers step.
