Interaction between Browbeat and Dual Casting

Asked by TheMountainLion 8 years ago

Do I copy it before they make a decision or after?

Also IF I'm supposed to copy it after they decide, do they make a choice again or is the first choice repeated?

You have to copy it before a decision is made. The decision making is part of the resolution of Browbeat, and by that time it's too late to copy it.

They make the choice to pay the life or not during the resolution of the spell. So that means that every effect that copies a spell will have to be cast before they make the decision.

2 additional questions:

Can they choose different choices for each one?

And when I copy it the spell has to resolve first right? so I cast it, it resolves (assuming they don't counter it), and then I copy it, and then they make a decision?

Yes they can choose differently for each spell.

No, the copy will resolve first. When you cast it, it doesn't immediately resolve, it goes on the stack and can be responded to. You must copy the spell before it resolves to get a copy of it. (Which will resolve before the original spell).

So how would that work if they counter the original? if I'm not mistaken I cast the spell, then they get a chance to respond, and then I can respond to their counterspell by making a copy? effectively casting it anyway?

Whenever a player casts a spell or activates an ability, that player receives priority again once that object is on the stack. That player may hold priority to cast another spell or activate another ability. In this case, you would hold priority to activate the copy ability on the creature that Dual Casting's enchanting. Then once your ability is on the stack you may pass priority.

You could also pass priority when you cast your initial spell, allowing your opponents the opportunity to cast their Counterspell. In which case, you will then have your own opportunity to respond to their spell with Dual Casting. (Be cautious on this method, though. If you pass priority and no other player responds with a Counterspell or anything, your spell will resolve off the stack. You will not get priority a second time.)
