Interaction between Araumi of the Dead Tide and Archfiend's Vessel

Asked by CamraMaan 7 months ago

If I use Araumi of the Dead Tide to encore Archfiend's Vessel, are they entering play from my graveyard or from exile, or from nowhere/ether...? It says you exile it as part of the encore cost, then copies of it ETB, but I'm assuming not from my graveyard, even though that was where the original card was sourced from. Some clarification would be much appreciated!

The target card is exiled from the graveyard, and token copies of that card are created. Pretty much out of thin air, they don't exist before they're created, and as soon as they leave the battlefield for any reason they stop existing again.

They're from the same place the copy made by Heat Shimmer is from. Created by an effect/spell, conjured out of nothing. Even though the card they were based on was mentioned going from the graveyard to exile, this doesn't count as entering from either, and therefor the Vessels entering the battlefield will not exile themselves to bring demons.

Hope that's clear enough?

The Vessel's ability won't do anything in this situation. Created tokens don't come "from" anywhere, they're just created directly on the battlefield. If you were to use an effect that actually did exile the Vessel, create a copy of it and then specifically "cast" the copy then you would get what you want.
