Imprinting Prototype Portal with Lotus Bloom
Asked by emblasochist 13 years ago
Does imprinting Lotus Bloom onto a Prototype Portal actually prove as effective as one might think?
Since Lotus Bloom has no cmc, I wonder whether imprinting it on a Prototype Portal is effective. If you can in fact pay it's second ability, how do you get the Lotus Bloom?

So, you get a free to use copy of Lotus Bloom by just tapping a Prototype Portal which is imprinted with it?

Can't make an infinite combo in my EDH deck, but still a decent idea should I ever need it again...

I have imprinted artifact lands on my Portals before. The principle is essentially the same: tap and get free mana.
Add an Unwinding Clock and watch the shenanigans.

Laughing way too hard at the concept of my opponent raging at me while I have out Portals imprinted with artifact lands and blooms, while I have the Unwinding Clock Out. Why in the world isn't Modern Tron doing this?

It's just inefficient; Tron has much better options available. The idea is solid from a casual or even an EDH standpoint, provided you're running a mostly artifact deck.
Also, you're unlikely to get any other responses. This question is 2.5 years old.

well i wanted to make an edh deck so i guess this is it. I guess to run a sunburst deck i'd have to use a 5 color commander hmmm

Lotus Bloom has no mana cost, but every card has a converted mana cost. Just like lands and other cards without mana costs, the converted mana cost of Lotus Bloom is 0, so feel free to go nuts once you have it imprinted.
