If I "copy" a creature with a +1/+1 counter on it, what happens?

Asked by GoblinRiot 12 years ago

If I copy my Geralf's Messanger that has a +1/+1 counter on it with Clone, or Cackling Counterpart, do I get a 3/2 messanger copy, a 4/3 messanger copy, or a 3/2 messanger with a +1/+1 counter on it (making it a 4/3)

Does the same hold true for populating creature tolkens with +1/+1 counters?

It would copy the creature without the counters.

a copy always copies the card itself, it never cares about anything else. Any enchantments, equipments, counters, until end of turn effects, etc. are always ignored.

Copy effects only copy what is written on the card, plus any copy constraints (I.e. those found on Phyrexian Metamorph , Sakashima the Impostor , and Evil Twin ). Copy effects do not copy counters of any kind, nor do they copy static buffs and inherited abilities from enchantments, equipment, creatures, etc.

When you copy something you get copy of object you copied WITHOUT any things attached to it - no enchantments, counters, equipments and effects it is/was affected with (for example +3/+3 until end of turn from Giant Growth ). Your copy will, until written othewise, enter the battlefield untapped regardless of state of copied object.
