Asked by Domginger13 9 years ago

Hey guys so I'm fairly new to magic and I bought a constructed deck and jungle hollows been getting to me, do you add another mana from your deck or hand when you tap it or does it become the mana you need? If any more explanation is needed please comment

Please link all cards in your question.
Jungle Hollow

Lands and mana are not the same thing.

Lands are cards. Generally, they have abilities that allow you to produce mana. Jungle Hollow is a land. So is Swamp, and so is Forest.

Mana is an intangible resource used to pay for many in-game costs, especially casting costs for spells.

When an effect instructs you to add mana to your mana pool, you create the described amount and kind of mana specified. This mana exists in your mana pool until you spend it or until the current step in the turn ends.

Jungle Hollow has a mana ability that allows you to add black mana () or green mana () to your mana pool. It does not search for other lands. It also does not "become" anything; the land remains as it is, and you add mana to your mana pool as instructed. The land is a totally separate thing from the mana it produces.

Welcome to the Magic world! To answer your question, Jungle Hollow is able to produce Either BLACK Or GREEN from it being tapped. It's similar to a basic land, but it is able to produce an alternate color. You just choose which of the two colors you want, and tap it for the chosen color.

This misunderstanding crops up a lot. It is because a while back they decided to change basic lands for aesthetics. Basic lands used to have an ability on them and are still treated as if they do. Swamp is an example of the ability that helps differentiate between mana and lands.
