How many sacs per turn

Asked by perfidious 12 years ago

How many creatures per turn can you sacrifice per Cartel Aristocrat ? I would like to run 4 of them Immortal Servitude and a whole bunch of one drops and 4 Blood Artist was wondering how many creatures I could sacrifice per turn.

you can sacrifice as many creatures as you have available for sacrifice.

each sacrifice will be a different trigger and must resolve. For example, if you have 3 creatures to sacrifice to Cartel Aristocrat and I Murder the Cartel Aristocrat after the second creature is sacrificed, you would not get to sacrifice the 3rd. you cannot say you sacrifice all three creatures and do so without allowing the opponent to respond to each trigger.

I meant activated ability, not triggered ability. That being said, I may not be able to Murder the aristocrat if you gave the Cartel Aristocrat protection from black on a previous sacrifice.

Alright, that all makes sense. Thank you kindly.

@drhumbra But he can respond to the murder by sacrificing the third creature and give protection from black. can't he? Before resolving priority passes to both players.

The optimal thing to do would be to wait for the owner of the aristocrat to sac all his creatures and murder it before anything resolves.

You are right in that he can respond to the murder with another sacrifice. However each sacrifice is a separate activation so he can not sacrifice all three at once and have them all resolve at the same time.

He can actually sac them all at once by keeping priority and then passing it to you once he is done saccing them. However that would not be wise since you could then respond to the last sac by casting your Murder and the 3 triggers would then fizzle. Which is why it is always wise to do things one at a time in cases like this.
