No, dying or leaving the battlefield does not equate to being dealt damage. Damage is either combat damage dealt in the combat damage step, or noncombat damage dealt by spells or abilities that specifically state they deal damage. High Priest of Penance will only have its abilities triggered by by damage, not exile or sacrifice effects.

No.

Dealing damage is not the same as dying, although dying can be the result of damage dealt.

When a creature "dies" it means that it is moved from the battlefield to the graveyard. This can happen for various reasons. High Priest of Penance has a triggered ability that will trigger whenever damage is dealt to it.

This can be direct damaging spells(such as Lightning Bolt ), combat damage (it blocks/is blocked by a Grizzly Bears , abilities (Brigid, Hero of Kinsbaile ) or other sources.

If HPoP is sacrificed it dies, but no damage is actually dealt to it. The same happens with exile. HPoP is exiled, but it hasn't been dealt damage, and thus the ability won't trigger.
