Garruk Relentless & Garruk, the Veil Cursed

Asked by Legendinc 13 years ago

Say I play Garruk Relentless  Flip  FlipMTG Card: Garruk, the Veil-Cursed and use his first ability, dealing damage to a Mortarpod black germ token and getting hit by 1, bringing him down to 2 loyalty counters.

this state based effect says I transform him to his other side, Garruk, the Veil-Cursed  Flip .

Can i used his +1 ability already or must I wait another turn since I've already used an ability of his, albeit from his other side.

It is the same permanent and thus it remembers that it used an ability that turn

Jarrod_0067 is correct.

A double-faced card is exactly the same object when it transforms. It retains all counters, auras, etc, and any status (like tapped or untapped). In the case of Garruk, this also means it remembers whether he's used an ability this turn or not.

Out of curiosity, though - how did fighting the Germ token deal Garruk 1 damage? A germ in a Mortarpod is an 0/1, so it doesn't have any power to damage him with. Unless they sacced the germ in response, which would make sense I suppose.

That doesn't make sense since why would they want him to transform? If they sacced the token, why wouldn't they hit the player or a creature?

You're right, that doesn't make any sense for them to do that. I dunno, maybe they have a Celestial Purge in hand, or a Ratchet Bomb (which is vicious against DFC decks). Still, that's kinda silly.

Yeah, the Garruk shouldn't flip after fighting a Germ in a Mortarpod.
