8/15/2010: The sacrificed creature's last known existence on the battlefield is checked to determine its power.

Specific ruling on Fling . This means if you have Goblin Guide with a Sylvok Lifestaff equipped, it's last know power was 3, so Fling will deal 3 damage to a creature or player of your choice.

Your equipment stays on the battelfield, not attached to anything. If it were an Aura, then it would go the graveyard as well, but Equipment, just like all other artifacts (unless stated), stay on the battlefield until removed.

Also just as aside note incase you didn't already know. If the equipment was something like Sword of Fire and Ice , you would indeed get the bonus to the creature's power. But you DONT get the combat damage trigger.

For a different example, with something like Grafted Exoskeleton . The damage is done by FLING ONLY. So even though the equipped creature did have infect, the damage would be normal, and not in the form of -1/-1 or poison counters.

I've had a few headaches with some people in the past over that. They never seem to realize what's actually doing the damage.
