Falkenrath Aristocrat Trigger vs In response

Asked by WickedVampire 8 years ago

Okay so I had a good board state my opponent was at 4 Life and i had 3 Blood Artist on the field A Bloodsoaked Champion and 2 Viscera Seer (along with Falkenrath Aristocrat ) So i passed to him, and on his upkeep i used The SAC ability of the Aristocrat on the bloodsoaked champion and a Seer but in response he exiles my aristocrat with a sles. charm? Does the Aristocrat ability still go off in this instance? he is still dead correct? or does the ability go on the stack? im confused.

Once an ability is successfully activated or triggered, that ability exists and resolves on the stack independently of its source. Meaning that it doesn't matter if the source is destroyed, exiled, or has otherwise left the battlefield (or apporopriate zone).

At the end of your opponent's upkeep, you are allowed to activated Falkenrath Aristocrat's ability 2 times in succession by retaining priority. However, it's important to note that between and after those 2 activated abilities, there are each 3 Blood Artist triggers.

At this point, it doesn't matter what your opponent does. The 3 topmost Blood Artist triggers will resolve, sending your opponent to 1 life. Then the topmost Falkenrath Aristocrat's ability resolves and either does nothing (due to Selesnya Charm getting rid of the creature), or it has its effect. Then, the next 3 triggers of Blood Artist go to resolve but only the first one actually resolves because that will be enough to kill your opponent.
